I will make no assumptions here and also maintain this post on a level that anyone can understand. You may be looking for a computer or laptop storage upgrade as well as just wondering what the heck SSD is?
To start, SSD stands for Solid State Drive. You're probably familiar with USB memory sticks - SSD can be considered a considerable and much more advanced variation of the humble USB memory stick. Like memory stick storage space, there are no moving parts to an SSD. Instead, info is saved in silicon chips.
Conversely, a disk drive uses a mechanical arm with a read/write head to move around as well as review info from the right location on a storage platter.
This difference is what makes SSD speed so much quicker.
As an analogy, what's quicker? Having to walk across the room to get a book to obtain information or amazingly having that book open in front of you when you require it?
That's just how an HDD contrasts to an SSD; it simply calls for more physical activity (mechanical motion) to obtain info.
